Friday 16 January ’04 started out with a walk into town to our favorite Bed & Breakfast. THE BUNGALOWS BED & BREAKFAST in Cabo San Lucas. Our welcoming host is Estella and her son Erik. It is always a great pleasure to stay with them and to enjoy their INCREDIBLE breakfasts. We have never be disappointed. Leaving breakfast we hiked up the hand-laid stone roads into the Pedregal and then over to the other side and view down into the vast Pacific Ocean. This is always an awe-inspiring sight. Going around the next corner always gives you a new and exciting view that few really get to see on their visits to Los Cabos. As we reached the other side of the Pedregal hill we were off the next stop of the day looking for a little beach time, cerveza, and another wonderful meal (boy do we eat GOOOOD). We finally made it to the SANDBAR BEACH CLUB and were promptly met by Doris (Doris and Juancho are the owners) and we were shown to our beach front table in the sand for our Fajitas y Camarones. One of the highlights of any trip to the beach is just getting your feet into the sand and letting all of the pressure of the day flow out into those small grains of granite. Even the beach vendors (and I love them all) add to the adventure that we all find in going to the beach in Mexico.

Let it rain, let it rain….
Well let me tell you, when it decides to rain in Cabo it REALLY RAINS !!! We were woke from a deep sleep early this morning by the rain coming down and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing. Obviously we missed out having breakfast on the beach. I hope there is still a beach to go to after this one. We drove into town with Doug & Bonnie to have lunch and the water was already flooding into some of the stores. The streets were almost impassable with the water coming down from the hills around town. If you haven’t been in a heavy rain storm in a desert area before you couldn’t have any idea of what it’s like. We decided to make it back to our third floor condo and wait it out by reading and eating our way through the day. Wednesday…It was still raining this morning when we got up but showed signs of stopping soon. We decided to do some domestic chores today like washing clothes and washing windows. The clothes got finished but I lagged behind on the windows long enough that it stopped raining. We decided to “catch the bus” to Centro and take in a movie. Great choice !! On the way back we found a internet café attached to Dunkin Doughnuts within ¼ mile from the condo….what a break!! Can’t wait for tomorrow morning to give them BOTH a try. Monday 12 Jan. 04….. When we were in Seattle it was eeaaasssy to sleep in past 8am but here….it’s practically up before the sun. This morning we were off to the internet café after breakfast here at the condo. Speaking of breakfast, I purchased a Stainless Steel French press coffee maker……LOVE IT !!! We’ll look forward to taking it with us to Europe for sure. We put the lap top into the backpack and headed off the internet café we had scoped out last Saturday. Well, it was out of business so we had to hit the bricks (concrete and dirt) roads to find another. After some searching (about 20 minutes) we were in and sending/receiving emails and uploading to the web site. Next stop, off to see Joanie at her real estate office. She is Ms. World Traveler and told us to meet her and some friends in Italy this September. Would be fun Joanie…. Then over to see Eddie again as we want to get a ring for Louise (Eddie ALWAYS has the Best). We were offered his car to go to COSTCO…as always we spent too much money. After dropping off our purchases and a long conversation with Eddie, fixing all the wrongs of the world and learning about a new game (what is the definition of….pismire?) we headed out the door for our trek back to the condo and straight to the barbecue. It was steak, quesada’s, salad and a Pacifico. It was great !!! Doug and Bonnie are coming by in the morning and we are heading to the SANDBAR (on the beach) for breakfast with Juancho and Doris. Great couple and a great place to have fun when you get to Cabo San Lucas.
This all started on Wednesday the 7th… The weather forecast was for snow, lot’s of snow and it ALL arrived on time !! We were heading out to the airport at the early hour of 6 am ( early for us anyway) and it had really dumped a lot of snow and the streets were covered with lots of ice. Upon arriving at the airport with one million and two people we found ourselves in the longest line imaginable. After hours in this line we were all told there would be “NO FLIGHTS….GO HOME !!!”. We did. Two days later we have left all that cold and snow behind and are now basking in the sun of Cabo San Lucas. Cabo is like a second home to us after having the experience of living here for just over 3 years back in ’88. We have been here many times since and still when we arrive back it is startling all the changes this “small fishing community” is going through. I constantly hear from the X-pat’s and those visiting for the first time that “it is too bad that this small fishing village is now just another American town with all the McD’s and all”. Well, maybe the “locals” would like to have some of the experiences here in their town that we find available in ours. It’s good to be back !!! Sunrise in Cabo San Lucas, ain’t it great!!! After showering and getting dressed I made bacon, eggs, & toast while Louise cut up the most incredible Papaya. Donning the backpack off we go to the CCC again for additional groceries and a Bar-b-que. We are looking forward to putting it to use while we’re here although I could eat at the taco stands day and night. Doug & Bonnie invited us to join them at a barbecue this afternoon at a home of one of their friends in Cabo San Jose, Baja California Sur. Alex and Susie invited us in as if we had known them all their lives to have a wonderful afternoon eating, drinking, relaxing and enjoying their family and many friends. They were wonderful hosts and we thank them very much for the wonderful hospitality. |
